DELPHI Events from the 161 GeV Run
W+W- Candidates
Below is a sample of events taken by the DELPHI experiment during
the period where the LEP accelerator was running at 161 GeV energy in 1996.

W+W- Events : e+ e- --> W+ W-

Candidate W+W- event, where both Ws decay into quark-antiquark pairs.
The two pairs of back to back jets have masses consistent with 80 GeV.
Same event, with magnified view of the
Vertex Detector (PS)
The first W decays into the red and the black jets, both back to back
and directed into the barrel of the detector.
The second W decays into the green and the blue jets which go into the
DELPHI end caps.
The third picture displays the energy flow.
The horizontal axis gives the polar angle, Theta.
The vertical axis gives the azimuth, Phi, multiplied by sin(Theta) to keep
constant areas in all points of the plot.
The plot is slightly rotated, with the Phi = 0 axis indicated as a dotted
line.
The colors are the same as in the other pictures, except the yellow which
corresponds to the black jets.

Candidate W+W- event, where one W decays into a muon+neutrino
and the second one into a quark-antiquark pair.
In the first figure, the muon trajectory is signed as a red line.
The second picture displays clearly the separation of the muon from
the quark jets.
The muon is identified by the small amount of energy deposited along its
trajectory and the hits (in green) in both layers of the barrel muon chambers.
The quark jets are clearly back to back.

The Tau itself decays into 3 hadrons and a neutrino.
