Measurement of the b quark fragmentation function

Measurement of the b quark fragmentation function

Present situation

A detailed study of the b quark fragmentation distribution has been shown at the HEP95 conference. The fragmentation of the b quark into B* and B** mesons was also measured. This analysis remains unpublished. Other LEP and SLD collaborations have published results on this function.

What remains to be done

This analysis has to be redone because most of the physicits involved in the first analysis have left DELPHI. The available statistics allows to do a very detailed measurement. The frontier between perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of QCD has to be studied. LEP is an ideal place to measure the b quark fragmentation function which will be an input to evaluate B hadron production at hadronic machines.
