B**s and Sigma(*)b excited states
B**s and Sigma(*)b excited states
Present situation
Evidence for B**s orbital excitations decaying into
B(*) K has been
shown by DELPHI at HEP95.
Evidence for excitated B baryons has been
reported
by DELPHI also at this conference.
Nothing has been published yet.
OPAL has seen also the production of B**s states but DELPHI seems to
observe two peaks in the mass distribution.
No other collaboration has shown evidence for excited baryon states.
Measured masses of these states are not also exactly those expected
from HQET. It is thus important to redo this analysis with higher
statistics and better algorithms to check the validity of the original
signals.
What remains to be done
A new analysis of these two channels has to be done to confirm signals
seen in the previous analysis, to evaluate production rates and
to measure masses of these states.
It will benefit from the improvements obtained in energy measurement,
particle identification and tracking.
It will give rise to the only publications of DELPHI on these channels.
Tools and contact-persons
The analysis can be done using the BSAURUS package.
