The OPAL Z-Chambers

The z-chambers are arranged to form a barrel layer around the jet chamber covering the polar angle from 44 degrees to 136 degrees and 94% of the azimuthal angle. They are designed to make precise measurements of the z coordinates of charged particles as these leave the jet chamber and thus improve both the polar angle and invariant mass resolutions.
