These are the instructions to "join the Web". If you want
to put information you have two alternatives:
- A. You can use the central www.cern.ch server.
- B. You can have your own WWW server.
Important Note: The possibility
of using the www.cern.ch server is limited to people related to CERN
to publish information about work, not personal pages.
STEPS FOR A:
- Ask your group administrator
for an AFS account
for each person that want to put information in the WWW server.
In case you want to have your Web documents about your group/experiment
in AFS you should ask for a project
space. Information on the structure and members of Divisions is kept
in the local dis k of the server, for this information you don't need to
ask for AFS project space.
- Ask your divisional webmaster to
approve the information you provide and send an email to www.support@cern.ch
saying your Web pages reflect official information on your division/experiment/activity.
- Send an e-mail to www.support@cern.ch with the following information:
- Your AFS account and AFS directory for Web files, in case you have
one.
- Your Division/Group
- What kind of information you want to provide. Remember it has to be
related to work, not personal pages.
- The name you want for your directory. It is important this name reflects
the content of the directory, for example: Atlas, NA48, PhysicSchool
etc
- The kind of machine you work on: PC, Macintosh, Unix
- Once you have got an answer from the WWW Support Team, follow the instructions to make your files available
in the Web.
STEPS FOR B:
Here there is all the information how to setup a WWW server.
