The article is based on a huge survey among European inventor that has filed a patent. 27000 questionaires were posted and approxiematly 9000 inventor responded. The inventors were from UK, Spain, Netherlands, Italy, France and Germany. The survey map the typology of the average inventor. Furthermore the survey investigate the motives of inventors to invent, it is interesting to see that monetary rewards is not among the top motives, see table at page 9.
The inventors are also asked about the innovation process as well as property rights and the economic value of patents. What is the inventors motivation for patenting and actual use of the patent? See page 15.
Note: A lot of the inventors work for private companies.
