Installation and maintenance of Atlas software on LCG sites

Requirements for a LCG site to support atlas releases installation

• A working LCG software installed
• Scientific Linux 3.0.x or fully compatible OS
• A shared fs among the WNs, with at least 10 GB of free disk space (we'll need around 20-30 GB for ATLAS only in the next months, anyway)
• gcc 3.2.3
• glibc-headers and libX11.a installed in the WNs
• A nice and available site administrator .

LCG site administrator or manager

The List of atlas site can be found on the GOC page. You can find the names and e-mail of site responsibles, managers or administrators of a specific atlas LCG site.

Installation tools

• Install Atlas software shows some basic steps that the atlassgm should follow to install a specific release of atlas on a site. This page is mainly dedicated to the installers.
• A pdf documentation contains additional informations for atlassgm (but is obsolete right now).
• LJSF contains commands atlassgm has to be familiar with.

The Web Interface of Atlas Software Installation/Maintenance on LCG

Here is the main web page for Atlas software installation on the LCG sites. From there, any Atlas user can check the status any release at any LCG site. One can select according to the release, to the site name, the site architecture or the computer element.

The page also displays under the Actions option at the left, links to the other installation, maintenance request web pages, to suscribe to a site, to pin a release to a site as well as the installation status monitoring page.

Nightly kits: Automatic installation requesting system

• Mainly for RTT and the Lancaster LCG/EGEE site
• But can be configured for any number of sites
• A few minutes after a nightly kit is released the auto requesting system insert a request in the installation system. The autoinstaller picks up the jobs < 10 minutes after and installs it
• The total time needed is the time when pending in queue at destination site + about 1h for the kit installation itself. The installation team is notified in case of problems

Troubleshooting

How to fix installation failures, dedicated to atlassgm as well as the site managers, contains most of the frequent problems encounter when installing atlas on a LCG2 sites. These problems could be related to site misconfiguration, installation as well as KV validation failures.

Sites with special installation (obsolete, need to be updated)

• Manual installation by the local site responsible of atlas release. atlassgm should not installing on this site to avoid conflictual situations.
• Sites not ready for Atlas atlassgm should not installing on this site to avoid waste of time. For different reasons these sites are not yet ready to receive atlas software
• Let me take care of these sites displays the list of sites chosen by a given installer to preferably take care of installation and maintenaces if atlas releases
• 64 bits machines site required a specific installation setup as ATLAS is not meant to directly support the 64 bits architecture natively. The current installation scripts do not succeed on 64 machines and the dedicated scripts will be available soon.
