Analysis of the Di-Muon LVL1 Trigger
The analysis was done on custom ntpules made from digit files. Each was simulated and digitized by 11.0.5. The analysis itself was done with root 5.12. I used two data samples, one of J/y to practice my scripts and the other consisted of rare B-decays which is the main goal of this study.
The first part was a study of the true event information. For each event I checked how many muons were generated, and what their Pt distribution was. Then I plotted a map of the directions of the generated muons in 2D, and separately for eta and phi. Last, I selected in each event the two muons with highest Pt, and calculated the opening angle between them (dR).
The second part was a very similar investigation of the LVL1 event information. For each event, the number of muon candidates and the muon candidates' Pt thresholds were plotted. Then a 2D map of the candidates directions, and separate distributions in eta and phi were made. Last, if there were at least 2 LVL1 muons in the event, I selected the two with the highest Pt, and plotted their Pt.
During the third part of the analysis, I tried to match true muons to the LVL1 muon candidates, and plotted the dR between each LVL1-true couple. Then I plotted a 2D map of the direction of the true muons for which a LVL1 partner was found. I also tried to find a connection between the opening angle of the two highest Pt true muons and the efficiency to detect them. I was also looking for a connection between the true muons' Pt and their chances to be detected by the LVL1 trigger. Last, I calculated the LVL1 trigger efficiency as a function of the eta coordinate of the true muon.
n the last part of my work, I studied overlap handling. I used different setups for overlap resolving and calculated the (single-muon, di-muon and triple-muon) trigger efficiency for each configuration.
