System tasks related to Computing and Data Preparation

The development of the detector-specific software (from the detector readout up to clusters in the calorimeters and track segments in the ID and Muon Spectrometer) is under the responsibility of the (sub)-systems (more here).

They have two reporting lines :

  • the Computing area, for the technical coordination of the activities and integration into the overall ATLAS Software system. This will be achieved through the ATLAS-wide domain Coordinators (Simulation Coordinator, Reconstruction Coordinator, ESRAT Coordinator, etc.) and a SPMB-like steering body.
  • the Data Preparation area, for the overall (physics-driven) coordination and strategy: e.g. it is the Data Preparation area that will decide to improve the description of a piece of detector or to mis-align the simulation to match the conditions of the real experiment.
