RPC 2021-10-20 further notice Please ignore the plot 00-RPC Report Summary Map and the high occupancy in Disk1/Ring2 (Endcap), is a known issue.

00-RPC Report Summary ** Important please ignore this plot for the moment until further notice ** |
Description: It shows the summary of the status of the RPC system on the wheel vs sector (eta vs phi) plane. The percentage represents the fraction of rolls (chamber eta partition) active in the readout, the color code is: green: status = [95-100]% yellow: status = [85-95]% orange: status = [30-85]% red: status = [0-30]% and white: not in readout. Please note, this histogram simply gives the fraction of working detector. IT IS NOT A MEASUREMENT OF DETECTOR EFFICIENCY. |
Action required: For COLLISIONS a run is GOOD if the summary report is between 90%-100%. For COSMIC runs check only the quality percentage assigned to each Wheel (please ignore the cells with information about the Disks). To find this information go to Workspace = Reports and click on RPC. If 1 or more wheel have percentage <70% send and email to cms-dpg-conveners-rpc@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch and cms-rpc-runcoord@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch. |
04-RPC_Occupancy |
Description: Occupancy per sector. Each of the histograms represents a different RPC region, i.e. Barrel, and Endcaps. |
Relevant Values: Uniform values among neighboring bins. |
Action required: If you find any empty cell and the number of lumisections is higher than 200, please send an email reporting such a case to cms-dpg-conveners-rpc@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch and cms-rpc-runcoord@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch. For lower number of lumisections is possible to have empty cells, in particular with runs with less than 50 lumisections. In the example below, there 24 cells empty for the barrel plot. In case of Collision runs check if there are bins that have values significantly higher or lower (at least a factor 20) than neighboring bins, if yes, please send an email to to cms-dpg-conveners-rpc@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch and cms-rpc-runcoord@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch reporting the cases. For COSMIC runs, high inhomogeneity of the occupancy is expected. Vertical Barrel ( sectors 1 and 7) and all Endcap sectors a expected to have significantly lower statistic compared to horizontal Barrel sectors (Sector 4 and 10). |
Instructions for Run2
Important Information:
*If RPC are in STANDBY, or HV is OFF, or LV is OFF *.
In the Comment section of the Run Registry ONLY write "Standby", "HV OFF", or "LV OFF", unless you're explicity told otherwise by an RPC expert.

Description: It shows the summary of the status of the RPC system on the wheel vs sector (eta vs phi) plane. The percentage represents the fraction of rolls (chamber eta partition) active in the readout, the color code is: green: status = [95-100]%,orange scale*: status = [85-95]%, red scale: status = [0-85]%, and white: not in readout. Please note, this histogram simply gives the fraction of working detector. IT IS NOT A MEASUREMENT OF DETECTOR EFFICIENCY. For Heavy Ions collisions it is normal to see at the beginning of the run (or for short runs) red and orange. Please wait to accumulate enough statistics before to make any complain. |
Action required: A run is GOOD if the summary report is between 95%-100%. In case of Cosmic runs check only the quality percentage assigned to each Wheel. To find this information go to Workspace = Reports and click on RPC. Mark run as BAD if 2 or more wheel have percentage <70%. |
The following histograms are all found in the /RPC/ folder under the Workspace = Shift
01-Fatal_FED_Erorrs |
(click - enlarge; dblclick - back) |
Description: This Histograms show the occurrence of a Fatal Error from any of the 3 RPC FEDs . RPC FEDs are numbered from 790-792, as the bins on the x-axis |
Relevant Values: The number of entries should be 0 at all times. |
Action required: If the number of entries if NOT ZERO, tell the Shift Leader and the DAQ shifter. Ask to stop the run. Mark RPC as BAD. Call the RPC DOC immediately (cell: 16-5508) . |
02-RPC_Events |
RPC Events (click - enlarge; dblclick - back) |
Description: The number of entries tof this plot corresponds to the number of events processed by the RPC DQM application corrisponds. |
Relevant Values: Wait for the number of entries to be > 10000. Once this threshold is reached, start looking at the following histograms (03-Quality_State_Overview and 04-RPC_Occupancy ). |
Action required: If, at the end of the run, the number of entries is > 10000, look at the following histograms (03-Quality_State_Overview and 04-RPC_Occupancy ) before you make a decision on the quality of RPC data. If at the end of the run the number of entries still =<10000, mark RPCs as <span style="color: green;" class='TMLhtml' >GOOD. |
03-Quality_State_Overview |
(click - enlarge; dblclick - back) |
Description: Fraction of chamber partitions in each of the 7 quality state categories. These 7 categories are listed along the x-axis. |
Relevant Values: Check the value of bins (x=GOOD, y = E-), (x=GOOD, y = B), and (x=GOOD, y = E+). The value should be => 0.5. |
Action required*: No action required in case of Cosmic or Commissiong runs. If one of these 3 bins if <0.5, write it in the RPC Comment section in the Run Registry and send an email to andres.leonardo.cabrera.mora@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch. *Do NOT mark the run as BAD. |
04-RPC_Occupancy |
(click - enlarge; dblclick - back) |
Description: Occupancy per sector. Each of the histograms represents a different RPC region, i.e. Barrel, and Endcaps. |
Relevant Values: Uniform values among neighboring bins. |
Action required:In case of Collision runs note all bins that a values significantly higher or lower (at least a factor 10) than neighboring bins. Write it in the RPC Comment section in the Run Registry and send an email to andres.leonardo.cabrera.mora@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch. Do NOT mark the run as BAD.. For Cosmic runs, ignore this plot, unless you're an RPC expert. In fact, high inhomogeneity of the occupancy is expected. Vertical Barrel sectors and all Endcap sectors a expected to have significantly lower statistic compared to horizontal Barrel sectors. |
