Event Selection in Pisa
- In attached slides you can find the cuts of electron and proton preselection and selection and the storage directories on castor.
Preselection/selection electrons: It is a one step selection and the output files are in AMSRoot format.
Preselection/selection protons: Two steps selection 1) first output files are in AMSRoot format. 2) second output files are in a simple tree format.

Event Selection at CERN/KIT
First Step: standard preselection:
The preselection used for the ISS data was the one circulated by Valerio, which I'm attaching at the bottom (select_5-tocirc.C).
The data files after the initial preselection are in AMSRoot format, and are located here:
/castor/cern.ch/user/v/vvagelli/ISS.B584.2ecal2
where each file is 10 RUNS.
Second Step: Choosing Protons and Electrons
The selection to separate protons and electrons is as follows:
a proton has:
- 0.5 < trk_charge < 1.5
- trk_rigidity > 0
- trd_SlikelihoodEP > 0.8
- 0.4 < tof_charge < 1.6
an electron has:
- 0.5 < trk_charge < 1.5
- trk_rigidity < 0
- trd_Slikelihood EP varies with energy, so it's < a cut function I've attached
- trd_SLikeEHe < 0.7
- ecal_eneDep / fabs (trk_rigidity) > 0.5
These files were processed with vdev (since the SLikelihood only works in vdev currently) and are in AMSRoot format. They can be found here:
- /castor/cern.ch/user/k/kandeen/vdev/ISS/ISS.B584.2ecal2/simple_cuts_runtagging_sel5/electrons
- /castor/cern.ch/user/k/kandeen/vdev/ISS/ISS.B584.2ecal2/simple_cuts_runtagging_sel5/protons
I'm currently having some trouble reprocessing these files, so I'm hoping to reproduce them over the weekend to fix this problem (Oct 12)
Update: finished, the files have been remade and are now fine. (Note that it seems one cannot split a single AMSRoot file into two files at once. I tried all available methods. In the end I had to run over each file twice--first to select protons, second to select electrons. This is stupid.)
Smaller trees were produced from these files (ie not AMSRoot format), and are located here:
- ISS electrons: /castor/cern.ch/user/k/kandeen/vdev/ISS/ISS.B584.2ecal2/simple_cuts_add_ciemat_sel5_electrons
- ISS protons: /castor/cern.ch/user/k/kandeen/vdev/ISS/ISS.B584.2ecal2/simple_cuts_add_ciemat_sel5_protons
- MC: /castor/cern.ch/user/k/kandeen/vdev/MC/[MC type]/simple_cuts_add_ciemat_sel5_MC where in the [MC type] spot you'll find labels like el.pl1.ecal.5100 as exist in the original database
