Checksum
29.11.2010: Is the checksum used in FTS for LHCb? no, so far we have not used it (whereas ATLAS yes), since at RAL Castor didn't support it.
In LHCb the checksum is used for the RAWIntegrity system: the checksum is computed on the ONLINE storage and for the migration on tape for RAW data. When they match the file is registered on the LFC and replicated to other T1.
This is done only for RAW data.
ATLAS and CMS: they use the checksum for all the transfers on T1 and T2:
- a new file is produced: checksum is computed as a step of the application on the WN and the file is registered, with also the checksum.
- replication is done (to another T1) with FTS, then it asks for the checksum at destination and checks if it the checksum is the same as registered. And it checks if it matches
ATLAS and CMS have been used this model for 6 months (since about May 2010) and it is fine. No serious overhead.
