Can we use exclusive electron production (pp->p+ee+p) via two-photon exchange to measure the luminosity?

-- AndrewHamilton - 27 Jun 2006

First we need to know the predicted cross sections. Here are the cross sections from LPAIR for exclusive ee (eta < 2.5) at 14Tev and 900Gev as a function of the electron Et cut exc_ee_cs.png.

It looks like a dielectron trigger threshold around 10 Gev might be possible... emailed Nick Ellis and Monika Wielers to get more info...

Even at 10Gev it doesn't look very good, at L=10^30 the event rate is only 10^-6 Hz.
