my notes on alignment

pdf document on startup calibration and alignment scenario

  • photogrammetry, drawings - 0.5mm to 1 mm accuracy
  • optical alignment system: 200 - 350 um in Rphi, 1 mm in Z
  • 10 pb-1 should allow precise alignment using Z, W decays

Muon TDR says

  • phi resolution goal is 75 um for ME1/1 and ME1/2, and 150 um for all the others per chamber (p.146)
  • ME1/1 axial field 2.7 - 3.1 T
  • ME1/2 highly non-uniform field, up to 1.2 T
  • Dubna prototype P0 achieves 50 um position resolution, same for Dubna prototype P1 (p.213)
  • Dubna prototype P2, 6 layers, tilted wires, 3T field, achieved 63 um
  • US P0' prototype achieved 60 um resolution for narrowest strips
  • US P1 prototype achieved 150 um chamber resolution (large chambers)
  • aimed for 100 fC (p.217)
  • If we run at 3.8 kV, however, cathode charge is only about 20 fC (Fig 4.8.3)
  • gain variation only about 12%
  • Fig 4.8.6 shows single plane resolution for Dubna P1 prototype with rms = 49.6 um (normal incidence)
  • Fig 4.8.7 shows US P0' single plane resolution vs. charge: 58 um for 100 fC and 200 um for 20 fC. This is for 16mm strips.
  • Fig 4.8.8 shows variation within a strip.
  • claim 80 um per chamber resolution - see Fig 4.8.9
  • strong variation with angle - Fig 4.8.10
