Mac Tips
Upgrade Harddisk / OS to Snow Leopard
In the case that you have only a mac and you want to change HD and upgrade OS to Snow Leopard in the same time, you can do that. What extra stuff you need is SATA box (or dock). I bought dock to mount HD without screw yesterday from MediaMarkt, Meyrin, Switzerland. It works quite well and I don't have to worry that in the future, if I cannot screw out I have to use the box with that HD forever ^_^! The price is the same with SATA box (49 CHF), but you can use it for 2.5" and 3.5". For person who want to buy HD, you can easily find it at MediaMarkt (Tram 14,16 stop "Jardin Alpine"). For special screwdriver, i.e. TX8, you can find in Migros for House & Garden at Balexert.
After you change your HD, you just install your new OS and attach your old HD when the installer asks about "Assistance Migration". That's it. Life is so easier
Macbook core duo works on Snow Leopard, I can comfirm this, because I still use 1st generation core duo macbook.
Spin Wheel of Death
If you cannot boot from you disc, and your screen appeard a spin wheel on gray screen. You may need to press C button after you boot the system until the gray screen disappear. I uses "until", because maybe it will take few minutes.
Apple said that "Your Mac may start up to a gray screen after upgrading from Mac OS X v10.5 to Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. This may occur if a previous Mac OS X v10.5 software update had been downloaded using Software Update, but not completely installed, before installing Snow Leopard,"
I will confirm this if I have spin wheel of death ^_^ Good luck
Tab completion on Terminal
You may need to add "set autolist" in your .tcshrc file to activate autolist when you press Tab
Mac Fusion in Leopard/Snow Leopard
You need to install
MacFuse first, before install MacFusion.
MacFusion web:
http://www.macfusionapp.org/ (It seems to work on Leopard only).
In the case of snow leopard, you need to fix:
http://rackerhacker.com/2009/08/28/fix-macfusion-on-snow-leopard/ (I already tested, it worked well)
Note: I've test old
MacFusion after update to 10.6.2, It seems to work well, without fix. I don't know why???
Fink on Snow Leopard
The
fink binary package for Snow Leopard has not come yet, you need to install from source, but it's quite easy.
