Role of the Physics Coordination
Chair: Physics Coordinator
Composition: Physics Coordinator and Deputy, convenors of the Physics WGs, convenors of the Combined Performance WGs, and, ex-officio, the Spokesperson and Deputies and the Trigger, Computing and Data Preparation Coordinators.
Meets: typically monthly.
Role: overview the activities of the Physics WG and Combined Performance WG ensuring coherence. Examples:
- Overall planning and synchronization of the performance and physics activities: e.g. some analyses (for instance determination of performance aspects) need to be performed before others.
- Overview the production of Monte Carlo samples for Physics and Combined Performance WGs.
- Ensure coherent use of physics and software tools across WGs: e.g. MC generators, baseline algorithms, etc.
- Establish links with theorists and with other experiments (e.g. with CMS when LHC results will be combined)
- Solve possible conflicts between analyses, groups and individuals (escalate them to the ATLAS Management if a solution cannot be found)
This body also plays an important role in the approval of physics results for conferences and publications.
