Generating LHE files

As of today, all private LHE generation are done with MadGraph 5 (Version: MG5_aMC_v2_5_4). This software is available to download at: https://launchpad.net/mg5amcnlo

0. Installation:

Get your MadGraph MG5_aMC_v2.5.4.tar.gz, upload to your work dir on hexfarm/lxplus, do

tar -xzf filename.tar.gz

to unzip and install.

Two steps are involved in the private LHE generation, like any LHE generation with MadGraph 5:

1. Define/customize your proc_card, including the process you would like to generate. Some sample proc_card I have been using can be found here, which are also attached to this twiki page (see attached files)

./bin/mg5_aMC your_proc_card.dat

To generate this event, an output directory will be specified in your_proc_card.dat

3. Now go to your output directory, edit the run_card.dat under your_output/Cards/, you can define the number of events you wish to generate, jet matching parameters, various mass cut, pt cut etc. in run_card.dat.

4. Once you set up the appropriate run_card.dat, go back to your_output directory, within this directory, do

./bin/generate_events -f

(Note that often this is the long step of event generation, you might need to do this step on Condor, but make sure first you do a test run interactively. The test runs only need to be done one time after your MG is set up. You can take advantage of the condor scripts here for generating events on Condor and NOT SPAMMING HEXFARM WITH MAD_EVENT! )

5. Finally, you will have your LHE files under your_output/Events/run_xx/

A Note on Various Parameters in run_card:

Parameters Changed in NLO ZGamma run_card.dat:

3 = ickkw ! Always, as for FXFX Merging

Mass:

0.0 = mll ! Min inv. mass of all opposite sign lepton pairs

30.0 = mll_sf ! Min inv. mass of all opp. sign same-flavor lepton pairs

Photon:

10.0 = ptgmin ! Min photon transverse momentum

Parameters Modified in LO ZGamma run_card.dat:

5 = mmll ! min invariant mass of l+l- (same flavour) lepton pair

30 = mmllmax ! max invariant mass of l+l- (same flavour) lepton pair

20 = pta ! minimum pt for the photons

-1 = ptamax ! maximum pt for the photons
