Scratchpad: German LHC Physics School 2010: leptons
Guidelines
- intended to teach physics
- not intended to teach CRAB / CMSSW / ... (as little as possible)

Tutorial: Physics with dileptons
"Invariante masse plotten und dann daran drehen"
- keep in mind that computing skills on this day will be lowest, but there will be a computing intro on Monday too
- time: ~2.5 hours
- preferably use data samples only
- possible analyses (and or combinations thereof, just a few things that come to mind):
- Select and fit J/psi (or Z, depending on available Lumi), vary lepton cuts - how much does one have to change relative to "standard" ID cuts? if too far it does not make much sense)
- potentially calculate inv mass on foot (to understand invariant mass)
- Muons: define different dimuon types (gg, gt, tt), add muID selectors + overlap cleaning + diLep vertex requirement
- Electrons: learn more https://indico.desy.de/getFile.py/access?contribId=206&sessionId=19&resId=0&materialId=slides&confId=1964 page 15 gives ele jpsi peak
- Produce S/B or purity vs efficiency plot for different leptonID regions
- Distinguish trigger threshold and trigger efficiency, also in presence of other triggers (to understand effect of other triggers on trigger thresholds)
- Calibration study - use calibrated Z -> ee, decalibrate, look at resolution effect)
Discussion: Wo ueber W sprechen?
- Donnerstag zur Beschreibung von Untergruenden, da dann MET auch bekannt ist? -> Comment: Will not go into MET in Jets session.
- THIS: Besser: auch noch in den Dienstag and MET vorgreifen? Dann waere es in "Physics Cases" mit drin.
Resources
- Benedikt and Roger will provide datasets and baseline skeleton code for analysis.
- They need to know which datasets will be needed
Question: T/P was mentioned - would Benedikt and Roger provide the full analyzer for it?
