Preliminary PhD_StaraWersja Thesis Outline
1) Intdroduction
A general introduction to CERN and the LHC.
2) The ATLAS experiment
Overall description of the ATLAS detector with special focus on Tracking detectors and material distributions.
3) The Theory of Track Fitting and Track Extrapolation in presence of material
An introcution to track fitting using local and global fitters is given with a special focus on track and material integration.
4) The TrkExtrapolation package in the new ATLAS Tracking realm
The new extrapolation package in the redesigned ATLAS Tracking realm is presented. It covers the overal design, the tracking geometry description, the intrisic navigation :
- 4.1) The Track class and the development of a commen Event Data Model: The design of the ATLAS Event Data Model is presented with special focus on the representation of track parameters.
- 4.2) The Tracking Geometry description of the ATLAS detector The common Tracking geometry implementation is described including TrkSurfaces, TrkVolumes and TrkGeometry. In addition the conversion from the common ATLAS Detector description GeoModel to the simplified tracking geometry is presented. A comparison between material distributions within full detector simulation and the tracking geometry is done.
- 4.3) Track extrapolation with intrisic navigation The navigation through Tracking volumes and the material effects correction on the propagated trajectories is shown.
- 4.4) Performance
5) Results of the Combined ATLAS Test Beam 2004 and client algorithms
The use of the new extrapolation package within the CTB 2004 taken data is shown .
- 5.1) Track Finding
- 5.2) Track Fitting / Refitting
- 5.3) Material Studies
- 5.4) Holes on Track search
- 5.5) Client Algorithms (TrackToVertex, TrackToCalo, etc.)
6) The impact on the restructured common Tracking realm
- 6.1) Track Fitting and Refitting, pull distributions, resolution plots
- 6.2) Impact on the W mass measurement
7) Conclusion
A) Appendix
- A) Particle Interaction with Matter
- B) Propagation methods used in the ATLAS TrkExtrapolation
