Trigger Shifter Guide: CSCTF Cell
The CSCTF Trigger Supervisor Control and Monitoring Panels are available from the
CSCTF Cell.
CSCTF Link Status Display
This panel monitors the state of the links from the MPC to the SP. In one sector (one Sector Processor), we have 3 links connected from each crate in ME2/3/4 and 6 from ME1 for a total of 15 links to be monitored.
How to access the Panel:
- Connect to the csctf-cell at the link http://csc-tf.cms:2974/urn:xdaq-application:lid=13/. A menu will appear on the left.
- Select "Control Panel" "LynkSynchSummary Panel"
- Click on "Create Display"
Do not click on Refresh button as first action, otherwise the cell will crash and you will need to restart it
Understanding the panel:
- Each SP correspond to one 1 of the column for a total of 12 columns (or SPs):
- SP #1,..., 6 belong to the positive endcap
- SP#7,...,12 belong to the negative endcap
- Each SP monitors 15 links, labeled as FX/M1,2,3 where X =1,...,5:
- F1,2 correspond to the ME1 sector
- F3 correspond to ME2 sector, F4 to ME3, F5 to ME4
- 3 links belong to 1 crate. The corresponding mapping is transparent in the panel.
Color Legend
- LINK STATUS OK
- THE LINK IS NOT RECEIVING SIGNAL
- LINK IS RAISING FMM ERROR
|
|
Ideally all the links should be working and their state green . If one of the link is blue or red the relative SP will raise and FMM ERROR and STOP the data acquisition during GLOBAL runs (it won't affect the data taking during local runs).
CSCTF Rate History Display
This panel monitors the rate of the 12 SPs along the time.
How to access the Panel:
- Connect to the csctf-cell at the link http://csc-tf.cms:2974/urn:xdaq-application:lid=13/. A menu will appear on the left.
- Select "Control Panel" "LynkSynchSummary Panel"
- Click on "Create Display"
- Scroll up and down to monitor the history of the 12 SPs
Do not click on Refresh button as first action, otherwise the cell will crash and you will need to restart it

Troubleshooting
CSCTF is
Out-Of-Synch (OOS) at the DAQ:
- identify the SP raising the error:
- Ask the DAQ shifter the FED number. SPs are numbered from 890 to 902 with the following correspondence 890 = SP1, 891 = SP2, etc, etc.
- Open the Link Status Panel following the proper instructions
- Verify and record the number of links in error from the SP raising the error
- Page the CSCTF expert on call who will mask this link error at the DAQ level. Eventually this will be an operation the CSC shifter should be able to perform, but for the time being it is an expert action.
If you report that all the three links from a crate are red or blue, this indicate that the problem is not with the link but most likely with the crate. Attempt a power-up init of the crate and check its configuration and firmwares are fine.
FAQ
Q: from the Link Status Panel and observe
links are
BLUE or
RED , but the global data acquisition is not stopped?!!
A: The only way this can happen is if the links in error are already masked
Please check if the informations are reported on the
CSCwhiteBoard or previous CSC/Trigger elogs. In case not, page the CSCTF expert on call so he/she will add the information.
