Mini-Circuits TB-409-52+

Discrete component

This board is based on a discrete integrated Gallium Phosphate broadband amplifier with a dynamic range up to 2GHz. Input impedance is matched at 50Ohms with an output power at
15.5 dBm. The corresponding data sheet is attached: GALI-52.pdf.

Typical performance characteristics are available here: GALI-52_Performance.pdf.

The IC is available in individual packing and reels for PCB integration through Mini-Circuits.

Test Board

The more convenient approach is to supply an evaluation board including a low voltage filter and and the A/C coupling capcacitors in a single metal frame.
The relevant part number is TB-409-52+ and a detailed datasheet is attached: WTB-409-52_P02.pdf.
Manufacturer web-page can be found here.
Insertion losses at 1GHz are calibrated at 0.64dB.

Evaluation_Board.bmp

Electrical characteristics:

  • Supply Voltage: 12 +/- 0.2 V
  • Supply current: 60 +/- 10 mA
Preparation work:
  • Before using the evaluation board a cable terminating to banana connectors needs to be attached for low voltage powering. An 1.5 m cable is recommended.
  • An aluminum cover needs to be machined for shielding the amplifier
  • Two holes need to be drilled for fixing the aluminum cover (see the mechanics section).
  • A capton adhesive totally covering the top side of the board is recommended to avoid shorts.

Mechanics

Since the amplifier is provided on a generic test board placed on an aluminum Π shaped support frame, a cover shield has to be machined to ensure EM protection. Recommended material is 30 mm thick solid aluminum with an estimated weight for this piece of 18.4 gr. Two holes for support screws need to be drilled, one on each side of the shield cover. The detail mechanical schematics is presented in the following picture:

After the cover has been manufactured, appropriate holes need to be placed at the test board support frame at corresponding points for the attachment crews to fit. M1.2 screws are suggested, but this can vary with respect to availability with the condition to stay under M2 diameter. The corresponding STP file can be accessed here.

Particulars AM-01A

Particulars AM-01 is a charge amplifier designed for use in TCT systems with a 50 Ohm adapted output and a power voltage between 6 and 15V.
It is available via Particulars ( link). Although this is a suitable solution for fast timing signals, it is not advisable for non -irradiated sensors because of the high intrinsic gain, expected to be at lest 20 at the lowest supply voltage. Also please note that this is a two stage amplifier solution integrating also the equivalent of the transimpedance amplifier implemented on the single channel UCSC boards. As a result timing measurements and pulse shapes will be deformed if the two are used in combination.

Particulars.bmp

It is a broad band amplifier with a dynamic range between 10 kHz and 2 GHz and a maximum gain of a 100 at the maximum supply voltage.

The datasheet of the device is attached here: ParticularsAmps-Manuals.pdf.
