Minutes (DRAFT.rev)

1. Approval of minutes and agenda

The minutes were approved and the agenda was accepted. The functional specification for the cryogenics infrastructure in SM 18 is due for end of June 2009 (action: WW).

2. First results on quadrupole resonator

TJ presented first results on the refurbished quadrupole resonator. Responding to a question of SC, TJ answered that the dipole mode at 180 MHz could be used for measurements, provided the RF equipment is available. However, the maximum magnetic field is located not on the sample, like in the quadrupole modes, but on the rods (about 50 %).

3. Matters arising and pending - Round Table tour

Concerning the preparation and tests of the SPL 700 MHz monocell cavity (provided by CEA) a cost estimate was made: Mechanical modifications of insert and cryostat V3, including the assembling of the magnetic shielding (2 man-months, 18 kSFR), annealing of the magnetic shielding (about 1 kSFr), Phase lock box (costs to be assessed), portable TOC counter (37 kSFr), particle counter for water (33 kSFr), connection equipment, flanges for surface treatment + HPWR (~10 kSFr).

The high pressure water rinsing (HPWR) system has not been operated for >2 years, and there is no gurantee that it is still 100% operational It will be tested when the new water production plant is online (expected in June). For LHC cavities only low pressure water rinsing was used, as it will be for HIE-ISOLDE. SPL cavities are the only client for HPWR. Cost of full refurbishment (controls, diagnostics, revamping of filters) about 200 kSFr (already in SPL MTP).

There is a cryogenic installation being offered which was used previously for AMS (action: Dieter Schinzel to be contacted).

BV will specify the contribution that could be provided by CNRS for upgrading the cryogenic equipment for SM18, using money from the French special contribution to CERN (action BV by end of April).

Concerning HIE-ISOLDE the RRR and critical temperature measurement aparatus is working and could be used for tests of samples. These samples are later to be measured in the quadrupole resonator.

4. Next meeting and proposed agenda

The next meeting is planned on Monday, 18 May 2009, B. 864-1-C02, 16h00. Proposed agenda topic: First results on coatings for HIE-ISOLDE.

The proposed agenda will be communicated later.
