Introduction

Procedure

This is a must read section before continuing with Spcl Crate.

A little history about the Trigger Panel part of the TDAQ software. It was designed to take data in one "go" for a normal TBB ( that has two 37 pin connectors). This is usually the case for barrel and endcap.

And at present we have only two sets of a pair of trigger cables running from FECs to Rx crates. The pair to be actively used in data taking is selected by HfecFT.

  • HfecFT = 0 means signals from cable number 3&4 will be recorded.
  • HfecFT = 1 means signals from cable number 1&2 will be recorded.

Cable pair 1&2 and 3&4 are already connected to back of Rx crate.

Cable swapping when needed is to be done on FEC only.

Now Special crate is different from other "normal" crates. It has three TBBs in tandem and two TDBs.

Each TBB has two connectors. ( Each Trigger cable caters one connector. )

How to take data for Spcl TBBs :

Each of the three TBB for special crate has its own button on GUI :

  • "TT EMEC Special(TBB0): Connectivity"
  • "TT EMEC Special(TBB1): Connectivity"
  • "TT EMEC Special(TBB2): Connectivity"

These respective buttons together with MinIndex completely specify the TBB in software. ( On hardware part: Remember respective cables need to be plugged in and is decided by HfecFT ) So to take data for any of these TBB, MinIndex has to be set respectively.

  • MinIndex = 0 for TBB0
  • MinIndex = 384 for TBB1
  • MinIndex = 640 for TBB2

In Summary: Once the required Trigger cables are connected to back of Rx crates and the corresponding HfecFT number is configured, one can take data for this connected TBB by putting the associated value of MinIndex and clicking on the associated button.

The test for all three TBB will be completed with completion of index 832 on GUI. This means in all 832 files will be recorded. ( But the last file will be set4 for index 832 / 4 = 208 ( Each index is recorded in a set of 4 ). So when for example index 3 is being taken it is recorded as set 3 and index 1 and not as index 3. That is to say that on the GUI display, index is incremented by one but files are recorded in set of four. It may be good idea to display set and Index number on GUISorry if it is confusing. )

How to take data for TDBs:

Each of the two TDB for special crate has its own button on GUI : "TT HEC (TDB1): Connectivity" , "TT HEC (TDB2): Connectivity". But each TDB has 6 connectors instead of two as on TBB and are labelled as A, B, C, D, E and F. This adds a little complexity in dealing with them as data is only recorded for two connectors in one "Go". Also at a time only four connectors can be connected to Rx crate because we have only four trigger cables.

So now MinIndex is chosen as following:

  • For Cables from E & F --> MinIndex = 0
  • For Cables from C & D --> MinIndex = 128
  • For Cables from A & B --> MinIndex = 256

There is one limitation in the software that as of now it does not has buttons for each pair of cables. Hence once the data taking has surpassed index value for the next pair of connectors ( as will be evident on GUI ), one has to stop data taking by hand. To stop daq at this time may be tricky and ugly. ( It is important as the next set of data is for another pair of cables which are not configured in the present "Go" ). So this part requires additional shifter intervention. So once stopped, one can restart with the configuration for the next pair of cables, (it may require changing cabling on detectors) with corresponding MinIndex.

In Summary: Once the required Trigger cables are connected to back of Rx crates and the corresponding HfecFT number is configured, one can take data for this connected pair of trigger cables from TDB by putting the associated value of MinIndex and clicking on the corresponding TDB button. However one has to do this three times by brutally stopping daq in between switching to next pair of connectors.

This part of the test will complete with index 384.

We hope this clarifies "How to do Trigger test for Spcl crate".

Now if you understand how to configure and set MinIndex. Then please follow the instructions for standard crate to proceed with special crate. Click on RunStandardEMECTriggerConnectivity
