Trigger White Board

Always fill in valid PSKs for "Standby", "Emittance", and "Physics" before you go to "INITIALIZE". If non-valid PSKs are set, e.g. 0, the HLT farm will be configured in an invalid configuration during "CONFIG", which will result in the HLT farm to die.
  • Keys should be used always as a fixed bundle of (SMK, L1PSK, HLTPSK and BGK) together
  • Keys are trigger release specific, if you're unsure which release is used, please ask the Trigger on-call expert (69161)
  • Any change of keys that has not been previously discussed NEEDS TO BE COMMUNICATED to the Trigger on-call expert (69161) before taking action, even if requested by expert from other subsystems
  • Please keep in mind, that if you changed keys during a run the keys will be reset to their original run start values when you stop the run.
If the prescale keys are shown as 0 (zero) in the trigger panel of the partition monitor (monitoring igui/spy-igui), restart the partition monitor.
  • Please check the Known issues section at the bottom of the Twiki to know whether errors need to be e-logged or not
  • Please always include the HLT_DQM segment in the partition
  • Please read the instructions for physics fills below when we take data
  • If the Trigger online expert is not picking up, rather than trying multiple calls, try calling for longer time (2min) so the call with be automatically redirected/repeated by CERN Phone Service

News

See PlanOfTheDay for up to date plan of operations, ask the Trigger on-call expert (69161) when in doubt about the required trigger configurations.

Keys for Release 24.0.22

High-rate keys (randoms-only)

  • Yes / Done Use these high-rate only (no standby) keys for subsystem tests . Alternatively check the Subsystem tests section.
Close For combined (or combined overnight) runs in Standby use the keys in the Standby + high-rate keys section.
Close In case of non-stable beam collisions, use the Non stable beams collisions keys.
Close In case of collisions, follow the Stable Beams collisions section & subsections.
  • The rate in the comment refers to L1_RD0_FILLED and its noalg HLT streamer
  • Deadtime Config should be set to Deadtime_Physics
(unless the PlanOfTheDay strictly says otherwise)

Standard Run Checks

Check these for all physics runs

BGK / filling scheme At the begining of the run
  • Set keys from the table "Keys before PREPARE RAMP" as Physics/Emittance/Standby
  • Once the LHC is in PREPARE RAMP check expected filling scheme from the LHC: https://op-webtools.web.cern.ch/vistar/vistars.php?usr=LHCCONFIG
  • If the filling scheme is not a known one from the table below call the Trigger on-call!
  • Otherwise select the correct BGK and PSK from the whiteboard
  • After the change, the prescales should match on the CTP Web Monitoring webpage under BGPattern

NEW: when changing both BGK and PSK use the new feature to simultaneously change them - e-log

If the above new functionality does not work, please follow the following reminder on the order of changing the keys:

  • Before collisions, when switching from a general BGK (2497 or 2678) to a dedicated BGK: first change the BGK, then the PSKs
    • more (2497) to fewer (other) bunches -> safe to switch BGK first
  • After collisions, when switching from a dedicated BGK (e.g. 2512) to a general BGK (2497 or 2678): first change the PSKs, then the BGK
    • fewer (other) to more (2497) bunches -> change of rate increase --> switch PSK first

Because BGKs 2497 and 2678 use more bunches and therefore PSKs that are adjusted for dedicated BGKs with fewer bunches could cause unwanted extreme high rate if paired (even briefly) with BGK 2497 or 2678.

For other changes of BGK, it might be best to ask to hold the trigger while changing to a different BGK unless instructed otherwise. In case of doubt, call the Trigger on-call expert.

Subsystem test keys

The HLT key contains HLT_noalg_L1Calo and HLT_noalg_L1Calo_EMPTY streamers unprescaled. L1 items are unprescaled since rate is controlled by calorimeter pulsing.
