News

For all general news regarding the combined testbeam, please see the ATLAS general combined testbeam web page at
http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/GROUPS/GENERAL/TESTBEAM/2004/

20040528: Testbeam box accepted; now in SR1 waiting services.

Also, news including shift information is distributed to the mailing list atlas-h8-combined-testbeam@cern.ch which may be subscribed to in the usual way at the CERN listbox admin page . Meetings

Magnet

In the 2004 combined testbeam, the magnetic field for the "inner detector" will be supplied by an MBPS magnet mounted immediately downstream of the Murpurgo magnet. The Murpurgo magnet will not be used as its field is vertical whereas in 2004 a horizontal field is required. The MBPS magnet gap has been increased to 230mm to accommodate the SCT and Pixel setups. I have made a preliminary calibration and magnetic field mapping as may be found here and summarised by these plots:

Note: coordinate system used in these plots is the usual testbeam system, Z along the beam axis, X horizontal and Y vertical.

Note: the meter readings and plots show the field with the opposite sign to the correct one. The positive direction of the field correspnds to the direction away from the barrack when the power supply current is positive.

Schedule

The ATLAS general combined testbeam schedule is here .

Note that this schedule shows in general the periods during which sub-detectors, including the SCT, may be present. The SCT is not currently installed and a firm date for installation is not yet available.

Infrastructure

Organisation

Organisation of the combined testbeam program, shifts etc., is at an ATLAS level through Beniamino di Girolamo. See the general web page at http://atlas.web.cern.ch/Atlas/GROUPS/GENERAL/TESTBEAM/2004/

and also subscribe to the mailing list atlas-h8-combined-testbeam@cern.ch.

There are no scheduled SCT main user or parasitic periods in 2004. SCT involvement will be through participation in the combined program.

Construction of the SCT test chamber has been organised by Didier Ferrere and Bettina Mikulec. Assembly of the SCT setup with modules and services is being organised by Gareth. There is as yet no firm date for installation of the SCT setup at H8. Preparatory work is being done in SR1.
