Progress reports on opto-packages
Ming Lee showed results from the first 8 of the new style opto-packages.
The coupled power into 50/125 micron fibre was in the range 300-1300 microW.
See the Taiwan links web page for more data. Radiation and enviromental
tests will start from Feb. 16th. Ming Lee will send two packages to Oxford
for integration into SCT links and BER tests. More details are available
from the Taiwan opto-links
web site.
KK Gan showed the status of the cap and base packages. KK now uses Aluminia
bases. VCSELs stick better now and the first packages are being assembled.
The results of measurements of the first 3 phase 2 packages are available
on the web. The next batch of up to 10 packages will be delivered by mid
Feburary and the remainder of the 60 packages will vbe delivered by the
end of February.
-
Market survey for opto-packages. A draft of the marker survey for
the opto-package is available here.
Please send comments to Tony.
-
Fibre insertion into lids. R. Wastie.
Roy showed photos illustarting the process of putting fibres into lids.
A lot has been learnt recently about how to do this and Roy is starting
to get very good results for fibre coupled power but some further improvements
are still required. Photos are available here (photo1,
photo2)
and a summary of the results so far is available here.
-
Radiation tests in Taiwan plans G. Mahout.
Gilles discussed the plans for irradiation 4 of the new Marconi phase
2 packages to the fluences required for the Pixel levels using the 30 MeV
proton synchrotron in Taiwan.
See the copy of the tranparencies
for more details.
-
Final results on VCSEL lifetime tests. I-M Gregor.
Ingrid showed the updated analysis of the lifetime after irradiation
studies for the MITEL VCSELs. These tests showed that the lifetime will
be good for VCSELs irradiated up to the SCT levels. Further tests should
be performed with the 4 packages irradiated up to the pixel levels in Taiwan.
See the copy of the tranparencies
for more details.
-
MT connector purchase. J. Troska and N. Uno
Jan presented the numbers of MT connector ferrule and pins required.
The procurement document is avilable here.
-
Opto-flex design. R. Wastie.
Roy discussed the status of the opto-flex design. There was a long
discussion about the lines required for temperature measurements. There
is a strong request to make two indeoenent temperature measurements (one
for each side of the barrel hybrid). However there was no scheme
to do this that was agrred. This will be disucssed with Ned Spencer. The
preliminary layout of an opto-flex is given under cables from the SCT links
home page. It was agreed that we should make one left handed harness (harness
-1) which would be compatible wiith current modules.
-
Harness production and test equipment. J. Troska
Jan discussed the harness production and the question of whether it
could be done by outside industry,
See the copy of the tranparencies
for more details.
-
Opto-flex to Al tape solder conenction. R. Millea.
Tony repoered on behalf of Rob that the solder tests with a pulsed
thermode were successfull and that a pulsed thermode had been ordered.
A sample of 150 Cu/kapton tape were now available for solder tests with
the samples of the Al tapes.
-
ASIC status.
DRX12. D. White
BPM4-B. N. Kundu
Tony reported that DRX-12 ihas been received and will be packaged.
Nine out of the ten packaged BPM-4B work except that channel 4 is broken
on all chips. Nikhil will discuss this with AMS and try to get AMS to reprocess.
-
OptoIF and BOC status. M. Goodrick
See the
transparencies from Maurice.
